Where to stay in Écija: the best areas

El Salón and the centre

The Plaza de España, El Salón to locals, is the city's meeting point. Here are the town hall, the terraces and the shopping streets running off in every direction. Sleeping in this area lets you go out to dinner and walk back, and start the morning with a coffee on the square before the sun gets strong.

It is the simplest option if you are coming for a day or two and do not want to depend on the car. Bear in mind that the streets in the centre are narrow with restricted traffic, so ask beforehand where you can leave the car.

Streets of palaces and towers

Around the centre spreads a web of streets with stately houses and bell towers. Here are the Palacio de Benamejí, with the museum, the Palacio de Peñaflor and towers such as San Gil or San Juan. At night these streets empty and the atmosphere is very calm.

It suits couples looking for silence, or those who want to photograph the towers in the early light without walking far.

Best-rated in this area: La Casa del Conde - Un alojamiento único en Écija, with a score of 8.7 from 88 reviews.

Banks of the Genil

The river Genil runs along the east side of the city. The area near the bridge has walking areas and a bit more air than the old town, welcome on summer nights. From here you walk up to the centre in a short stroll.

A-4 motorway exits

Écija lies on the A-4, the motorway linking Seville with Córdoba and Madrid. At the access points there are roadside places to stay with ample parking and direct entry from the motorway, designed for an overnight stop on a long drive through Andalusia.

They also work if you use Écija as a base for visiting Carmona, Osuna or Córdoba itself by car. On the other hand, to see the historic centre you will have to take the car again or walk a fair way, and the evening stroll among the towers loses its charm.
