Cazalla town centre

The village is laid out around the church of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, a large building visible from almost every street. Nearby are tapas bars, shops selling Iberian cured meats and the distilleries where Cazalla’s aguardiente is made, which you can visit or buy from their shops.

Staying here puts all the services at hand and lets you go out to dinner without a car. It is what people usually choose for a weekend of switching off and eating well. Some streets are steep, so comfortable shoes help.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Rural Posada del Moro, with a score of 8.9 from 1,169 reviews.

Mountain estates and farmhouses

Around the village the landscape is dehesa, with holm oaks, cork oaks, chestnuts and olive groves. Along its tracks are isolated farmhouses and rural cottages, many with a pool, fireplace and garden. They are ideal if you are travelling as a family or with friends and want space, silence and starry skies.

A car is essential here. Some approaches are dirt tracks, so ask about the state of the road before arriving, especially at night.

La Cartuja and its surroundings

On the outskirts is the old Cartuja de Cazalla, a monastery surrounded by orchards and woodland in a very secluded setting. The area appeals to anyone after total calm and walks without leaving the estate.

For dinner or shopping you will have to drive back to the village.

The station and the Vía Verde

Cazalla-Constantina station, on the railway line from Seville, sits by the banks of the Huéznar. From there runs the Vía Verde de la Sierra Norte, an old railway line now used on foot or by bike. Sleeping on this side makes sense if you are coming without a car or your main plan is cycling by the river.

Best-rated in this area: El Molino del Corcho, with a score of 8.6 from 76 reviews.
