Where to stay in Montilla: the best areas

Centre and Plaza de la Rosa

The heart of Montilla is Plaza de la Rosa, beside the shopping streets around it, such as La Corredera. From here you can walk to the house of Inca Garcilaso, to Santa Clara and to several of the wineries still within the town.

At night this is where most is going on, with taverns serving chilled fino with something to eat. It is the area that works best if you want to do everything on foot.

Best-rated in this area: Casa Boutique Navarro, with a score of 9.8 from 99 reviews.

Upper town and the castle

The streets climbing towards the castle and the church of Santiago are steeper and residential. There is less traffic and better views over the rooftops and vineyards. It suits you if you want peace without being far from the centre, although every return to your room means a climb. In return, you see the sunrise over the countryside from the top of the town.

Approaches from the A-45

At the entrances to town, near the motorway linking Córdoba and Antequera, there are places to stay with easy parking and quick access to the road. They work well as a stopover and for combining Montilla with the city of Córdoba or Aguilar de la Frontera. For tapas in the centre you will need the car or a good walk.

Countryside wine estates

Outside town, the countryside is full of vineyards and lagares, the old farmhouses where grapes were trodden. Some have become rural stays. They are ideal for a wine-tourism break as a couple or in a group, with silence and open skies. You will do everything by car, though, and don’t leave dinner to chance, as the town is a few kilometres away.
