Where to stay in Alcalá la Real: the best areas

Centre and Paseo de los Álamos

The Paseo de los Álamos is the town's living room. Around it are the shops, tapas bars and almost all the services, and the slope up to the Fortaleza de la Mota starts here. Sleeping in this part lets you see the Palacio Abacial and the Renaissance fountain on a short walk, and have dinner without the car.

It is the natural option if you are coming for a weekend and want to walk everywhere. Bear in mind that Alcalá is on a hill: if walking is hard for you, check carefully which street your accommodation is on.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel boutique Palacio de la Veracruz, with a score of 9.3 from 173 reviews.

Upper streets below La Mota

The steep streets climbing towards the hill are the oldest in town. The atmosphere here is local, with whitewashed houses and little traffic, and the floodlit fortress is right above. It appeals to those who prefer silence at night and do not mind going up and down slopes to eat in the centre.

Exits towards the N-432

The N-432, linking Córdoba and Granada, runs past the town. In the newer areas near the entrances you will find wide streets and room to park at the door. It suits you if you are on a road trip, travelling for work or just stopping one night on the way to Granada.

Hamlets such as Santa Ana and Charilla

Alcalá's municipality is very large and dotted with hamlets among olive groves. Santa Ana and Charilla are close to the main town and have rural houses and restored farmhouses. They are for groups, families with children or couples looking for countryside, a pool and starry nights.

From here you need a car for everything, including going up to La Mota. In return, you are quickly on your way to the hiking routes of the Sierra Sur or to Priego de Córdoba.
