What to see in Agullent

Must-sees

Agullent is a village in the Vall d'Albaida, in the south of Valencia province, nestled against the hills that bear its name. In the village, the church of Sant Bertomeu, with a remarkable altarpiece, and the former convent of San Jacinto, whose church can be visited, stand out. The old flour mill, which worked for centuries, keeps a collection on its activity, and several traditional washhouses remain around the village.

The hills are the other half of the visit. On the outskirts is the hermitage of Sant Vicent Ferrer, on a height with views over the valley, from where paths and mountain bike routes set off. Higher up is the Fornet de la Neu, an old well where snow was stored to be sold as ice. The Font Jordana, with a picnic area and trailheads, is the usual meeting point for walks.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Agullent. The activity usually on offer is a visit to a local winery, with a tour of the vineyards and production and a tasting of its wines. The village and the hills are easy to explore on your own, and the area's tourist office can advise on waymarked routes. Trips combining inland villages of the Vall d'Albaida also leave from Valencia.

How long to spend

About three hours are enough for the village and a climb to the hermitage of Sant Vicent. If you add the winery visit and a walk to the Font Jordana or the Fornet de la Neu, allow a full day. Over a weekend you can add neighbouring towns such as Ontinyent, Albaida or Bocairent, all a few kilometres away, and get to know the area better.

Where to stay

Accommodation in Agullent is limited to a rural house or two and apartments in the village, plus rural stays in the hills and among vineyards. For more options, Ontinyent, just minutes away by car, is the main town of the area and has the hotels and services. Albaida and Bocairent are also good bases for exploring the Vall d'Albaida.
