What to see in Cabra del Camp

Must-sees

Cabra del Camp is a municipality in the north of the Alt Camp, in Tarragona province, almost on the border with the Conca de Barberà. It is a quiet village surrounded by vines, olive and almond trees, with small plots enclosed by dry-stone walls. In the village, the parish church of Santa Maria stands out, built in the late 18th century on a parish documented in medieval times, and it is worth wandering the central streets in search of its fountains and the old washhouse.

Within the municipality is Fontscaldetes, a small village abandoned in the mid-20th century, with its church, fountain and ruined houses that a residents' association has been clearing. Another curious stop is the Mazinger Z sculpture near Mas del Plata, which surprises anyone who sees it from the road and is a big hit with children. And a few kilometres away is the Monastery of Santes Creus, right on the Cistercian Route.

Free tours and guided visits

Cabra del Camp has no free walking tours. The activity you will find is a visit to a family winery in the municipality, with a walk through the vineyards and a tasting of its wines, best booked in advance. To see the area's heritage, the Monastery of Santes Creus can be explored on your own or with a guided visit, and Montblanc, very close, also runs tours of its walled town.

How long to spend

The village can be seen in an hour or two, and with the winery visit and a trip to Fontscaldetes you fill a long morning. To make the most of it, spend a whole day in the area: Cabra del Camp and the winery in the morning, and Santes Creus or the old town of Montblanc in the afternoon. With two days you can complete the Cistercian Route with the monastery of Poblet and add a walk among vines and dry-stone huts in neighbouring villages.

Where to stay

Choice in Cabra del Camp is short: a few rural houses and farmhouses in the municipality, ideal if you want silence and vineyards around you. If you cannot find a room, Montblanc, about ten kilometres away, has more accommodation and a pleasant medieval centre for an evening stroll. Valls, capital of the Alt Camp, is another practical alternative, and Tarragona is less than an hour away if you prefer to sleep in the city and drive.
