What to see in La Palma del Condado

Must-sees

La Palma del Condado is the wine capital of the Condado de Huelva, halfway between Huelva and Seville. The centre revolves around the Plaza de España, a whitewashed, well-kept historic ensemble presided over by the church of San Juan Bautista, one of the finest Baroque churches in the province, with a tower visible from afar. Close by is the church of El Valle, Mudéjar in origin.

Walking around the centre you'll see grand houses such as the Casa del Diezmo and the Casa de Tirado, now the town hall, as well as the old Concepción hospital. The neo-Mudéjar train station is another curious stop. But what defines the town is its wineries, some over a century old, where Condado wines are made, including orange wine.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours in La Palma del Condado. What you will find is a winery visit, with a tour of the facilities and a tasting of local wines, the best way to understand the town. The rest you can see on your own, as the centre is compact. Wine tourism excursions around the Condado also leave from Seville and Huelva.

How long to spend

A morning is enough for the historic centre: the Plaza de España, the churches and a stroll along the main streets. If you add a winery visit with a tasting, allow the whole day, lunch included. With two days you can combine it with Niebla and its walls, a few minutes away, or visit Bollullos Par del Condado, another wine town.

Where to stay

The most convenient option is to stay in the centre, near the Plaza de España, where there are guesthouses and small places from which everything is on foot. There are also rural houses in the surrounding countryside, among vineyards, if you want peace and are driving. If accommodation runs short, Seville is less than an hour away and Huelva a little closer.
