What to see in Bullas

Must-sees

Bullas is in north-west Murcia and its name is tied to wine, with its own appellation. The Wine Museum explains this tradition, which dates back to Roman times, and the municipality keeps the site of the Los Cantos Roman villa, linked to that activity. In the centre, the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario stands out, with a striking Baroque tower, and close by is the Torre del Reloj, one of the town's best-known images.

The Casa de los Melgares, an eclectic mansion that's now a cultural centre, and the Don Pepe Marsilla Museum, a house showing how people lived in Bullas in the late 19th century, are worth a stop. Outside the centre is the Salto del Usero, where the Mula river forms pools under a rock vault and a small waterfall, a very popular swimming spot in summer.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours in Bullas. The most common activity is a winery visit, with a tour of the facilities and a tasting of the appellation's wines. To see the vineyard landscape, you can follow the El Romero route on your own, on foot or by bike, passing through the El Carrascalejo area.

How long to spend

Half a day is enough for the centre, the church and the Wine Museum. If you add a winery visit and the Salto del Usero, allow a full day. With two days you can follow the El Romero route or visit Cehegín and Caravaca de la Cruz, very close by road.

Where to stay

The most convenient option is to stay in central Bullas, near the church and the Wine Museum, to get around on foot. If you want peace, there are rural houses among the vineyards and around the Salto del Usero. There isn't a lot on offer, so if you can't find a room, Cehegín, Caravaca de la Cruz or Mula have more options a few kilometres away.
