What to see in Polop

Must-sees

Polop is a village in the Marina Baixa, inland Alicante, a few kilometres from the Benidorm coast. It is dominated by the silhouette of the Ponoig, a huge mass of rock visible from the whole area. Its best-known sight is the Font dels Xorros, a fountain with more than two hundred spouts lined up around a square, still the village's meeting place.

At the top of the old town are the remains of the castle, with stretches of wall, some towers and a cistern. For a long time the enclosure was used as a cemetery, and today it is a quiet spot with good views over the valley. Next to the Plaça dels Xorros, an old villa houses the museum devoted to the writer Gabriel Miró, closely linked to Polop. For the more active, the Ponoig has trails and a via ferrata.
