What to see in Jabalquinto

Must-sees

Jabalquinto is a village in the Jaén countryside, among olive groves and very close to where the Guadalimar meets the Guadalquivir. Its most striking building is the house of the Marquises of Jabalquinto, a 16th and 17th-century mansion built within the walls of the old castle, which now houses the town hall. Nearby is the church of La Encarnación, with a Renaissance doorway attributed to the circle of Vandelvira.

From the La Carrera viewpoint, next to a 17th-century hermitage, you get one of the best views of the village: the valleys of the two rivers, the mountains and, on clear days, the city of Jaén. In the west of the municipality, by the Bailén to Jaén road, stand the ruins of the castle of Las Huelgas, with two towers of medieval origin that can be seen from outside.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Jabalquinto. The activity you can book is a visit to an olive estate with an oil mill, where you learn how olive oil is made and finish with an extra virgin olive oil tasting. For the village's heritage, the tourist office is in the town hall itself. If you are looking for conventional guided visits, Baeza and Úbeda are close and have much more on offer.

How long to spend

Two hours are enough for the village, the church, the town hall and the viewpoint. With the olive estate visit and tasting, allow half a day. Ideally combine it with Baeza, less than half an hour away, and spend the rest of the day in its Renaissance old town.

Where to stay

Jabalquinto has very little accommodation, with a few rural apartments among the olive groves. The most practical option is to sleep in Baeza, where you can stay in the historic centre and walk to its monuments. Linares and Bailén, also nearby, have functional hotels and good road links.
