What to see in Ézaro

Must-sees

Ézaro is a parish of Dumbría, on the Costa da Morte, and the only one in the municipality facing the Atlantic. Its big draw is the waterfall of the river Xallas, which drops straight into the sea at the foot of Monte Pindo, a very rare sight in Europe. The flow depends on the dam upriver, so check the release times before you go. Next to the waterfall there are boardwalks and a viewpoint with a good view of the fall.

From the village a very steep road climbs to the Ézaro viewpoint, at about 270 metres. At the top you have views over the mouth of the Xallas, the granite rocks of the Pindo, the cove and, in the distance, Cape Fisterra. Below, Ézaro beach has fine sand and a seafront path. Monte Pindo also offers hiking routes among granite formations.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Ézaro, but you can take a kayak route to the foot of the waterfall, a different way to see it from the water. Everything else is visited on your own, on foot from the village. If you are in Santiago or A Coruña, many day trips along the Costa da Morte include a stop at the waterfall along with Fisterra, Muxía or the Carnota granary.

How long to spend

Two or three hours are enough for the waterfall, the viewpoint and a stroll on the beach. If you add the kayak trip or a route on Monte Pindo, allow a full day. With two or three days you can explore the Costa da Morte from here: Fisterra, Muxía, Carnota and Corcubión are a short drive away.

Where to stay

Ézaro itself has few places to stay, mostly rural houses and apartments near the beach, with the advantage of seeing the waterfall without groups early or late. If you cannot find a room, Cee and Corcubión, a few kilometres away, have more choice and services. Fisterra and Carnota are other convenient bases for exploring the coast.
