What to see in El Campello

Must-sees

El Campello is a coastal town north of Alicante, with a seafaring character still visible in its fishing port. The most interesting spot is the Illeta dels Banyets, an archaeological site on a small peninsula with Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman remains. Beside it stands the Torre de la Illeta, an old watchtower.

The seafront promenade runs along the main beach and links the centre with the port. To the south stretches Muchavista beach, long and fine-sanded. To the north the coast becomes rocky, with small coves such as Coveta Fumà and Cala Lanuza, good for a quieter swim.

Free tours and guided visits

Free tours are uncommon in El Campello. The usual options are guided visits to the Illeta dels Banyets site and excursions in the area. Thanks to the tram, getting to Alicante is easy, and there you will find pay-what-you-wish free tours. Other interesting trips are the Canelobre Caves at Busot, Tabarca island by boat, or Villajoyosa, with its colourful houses.

How long to spend

In about three or four hours you can see the Illeta, the tower, the port and the promenade. If you stay several days, split your time between beaches and coves, a day in Alicante and a trip inland or to Tabarca. It is a good place to combine rest and sightseeing. The tram makes it very easy to reach Alicante and other coastal towns without a car, so you do not need to hire one for these visits.

Where to stay

The centre, near the port and the promenade, is the most convenient area: restaurants, the beach and a tram stop are close at hand. Muchavista is more residential and quieter, with the beach in front and a quick link to Alicante. The north coast, among the coves, suits you if you want silence and are driving.
