What to see in Molina de Segura

Must-sees

Molina de Segura lies on the banks of the river Segura, very close to Murcia, and its history begins with an Andalusí fortress. The best place to understand it is MUDEM, the Museo del Enclave de la Muralla, built over a stretch of the medieval wall uncovered during building works. The route follows towers and defensive walls, including a bent entrance designed to slow down attackers. More remains can be seen on the church square and inside the tourist office itself.

From the museum you can climb to the Barrio del Castillo, the medieval core, with narrow streets leading to the Mirador del Castillo, on the remains of the old citadel. The 18th-century church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is the great church of the centre. Outside the town, the Ajauque wetland and the Rambla Salada form an unusual salt-marsh landscape, with good birdwatching.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours in Molina de Segura. The usual plan is to visit MUDEM and ask at the tourist office about routes through the old town or the municipality's natural areas. For more variety, Murcia, a few kilometres away, has free walking tours and guided visits all year round.

How long to spend

Half a day is enough for MUDEM, the Barrio del Castillo, the viewpoint and the church. If you want to walk in the Ajauque wetland or the Rambla Salada, add a few hours, ideally early or late in the afternoon, when it is less hot. Many people combine the visit with a day in Murcia, so over a weekend you can see both towns at leisure.

Where to stay

The most practical option is to stay in the centre of Molina de Segura, near the church and MUDEM, to walk around the old quarter with bars and shops close at hand. Hotel choice in the municipality is limited, so if you cannot find a room, Murcia is very close and has much more variety, with good road links for a day trip.
