What to see in Montroi

Must-sees

Montroi is a village in the Ribera Alta, in the Valle dels Alcalans, about twenty minutes from Valencia by motorway. It grew up around a 12th-century Almohad tower, around which a farming settlement developed. Of that castle little remains but the keep, square with thick walls, presiding over a small square at the top of the old town.

On the town hall square stands the parish church of San Bartolomé, a 19th-century neoclassical church with twin towers on its façade and a dome over the altar. Montroi has a long beekeeping tradition, and next to the tower is the Valencian Honey Museum, with an exhibition on the history of beekeeping, an audiovisual room, a play area and a shop selling hive products. It's a visit designed with children in mind.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours or organised activities to book on Civitatis in Montroi. The tourist office is in the same building as the honey museum, where you can find out what there is to see in the village. The most practical way is to explore on your own, as the tower, the church and the museum are very close together. If you want guided tours, Valencia has a wide choice.

How long to spend

Half a day is enough to see the tower, the church and the honey museum without rushing. To make a day of it, combine it with neighbouring villages in the valley, such as Real or Llombai, and finish with lunch in the area. From Valencia it's an easy morning or afternoon trip.

Where to stay

Montroi is a small village with little accommodation, mainly rural houses and rentals in the village or the surrounding countryside. If you can't find a room, the villages of the Valle dels Alcalans are a few minutes away. Valencia, about twenty minutes away, has the widest choice of hotels and works as a base for exploring the province.
