What to see in Cadavedo

Must-sees

Cadavedo is a village in the Valdés municipality, on the western Asturian coast, between Cape Vidio and Cape Busto. Originally a whaling village, it keeps indiano mansions and more than eighty hórreos and paneras (raised granaries), wash houses and mills spread across its hamlets, among meadows that run right up to the cliff.

The best-known image is the white and blue La Regalina chapel, on the Cuernu headland, with the Cantabrian Sea at its feet and views of La Riberona beach. In August it hosts a very popular pilgrimage with traditional dress. Nearby is the birthplace of Father Galo, the poet and folklorist who promoted the festival, and a short distance away is the Villademoros tower, by the cliffs. The northern Camino de Santiago passes through the village.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours or regularly organised guided visits in Cadavedo. The village is easy to explore on foot on your own, from the centre to La Regalina and the La Garita field. If you want something guided, the most practical option is to look in Luarca, where coastal routes along the Valdés shore start, or to walk a stage of the Camino del Norte.

How long to spend

In two or three hours you can see the village, the hórreos and the La Regalina chapel without rushing. If you add the Villademoros tower and go down to a beach, allow a full day. With a weekend you can combine it with Luarca and Cudillero, or walk a coastal stretch of the Camino.

Where to stay

Cadavedo has rural houses and apartments spread around the village and nearby hamlets, many with views of the meadows and the sea. It is a very quiet place to sleep and set off walking in the morning. If you want more services or cannot find a room, Luarca, the capital of the municipality, has far more choice and is close by car.
