Riumar is a settlement of Deltebre right where the Ebro meets the Mediterranean, within the Ebro Delta Natural Park. It is above all a quiet place of low houses, with a seafront promenade and a very wide sandy beach. Next to it is the wilder Bassa de l'Arena beach.

The big draw is the river mouth, especially at sunset, when the light changes over the water and the sandbanks. The setting is pure delta: rice fields, lagoons and waterbirds easily seen from the tracks. In the centre of Deltebre you can visit the natural park's Ecomuseu to understand how the delta formed and how people live in it.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours in Riumar. The most common outings are boat trips along the Ebro to the river mouth, leaving from Deltebre. Around the delta there are also cycling routes, birdwatching outings and water sports on the beach. Day trips to the Ebro Delta leave from Tarragona and other nearby cities.

How long to spend

A day is enough for the beach, the river mouth and a walk around. To see the delta at leisure, allow two or three days: one for Riumar and the river, another for cycling or driving through the rice fields and lagoons, and another for the Ecomuseu and a boat trip. Bear in mind that in summer there are mosquitoes at dusk.

Where to stay

Accommodation in Riumar is based on rental houses and apartments, many a few minutes from the beach, ideal for family stays. In summer book well ahead. If you prefer a hotel or more services, the centre of Deltebre is a few kilometres away and has more variety. L'Ampolla and Sant Jaume d'Enveja are other nearby alternatives for exploring the delta.
