What to see in Fuentespalda

Must-sees

Fuentespalda is a small village in the Matarraña area, in eastern Teruel, surrounded by pine woods and close to the Tastavins river and the Puertos de Beceite. In the centre are the church of El Salvador, Gothic in origin, the late 16th-century ashlar town hall and the Belsa family's palace. La Torreta, a medieval watchtower, houses an interpretation centre on the towers of the Matarraña, and around the village you will see remains of the walls and traditional fountains.

Outside the village, the great natural attraction is the Cueva del Agua, a cave high in the hills that can be visited with a guide. Around it are paths among pine woods, olive and almond trees. For thrill-seekers, the village also has a zip line.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free tours in Fuentespalda, but there is a guided visit to the Cueva del Agua lasting about two hours, with a walk up, helmet included and a tasting of local produce at the end. It is the usual way to see the cave. You can easily explore the village on your own. If you are staying in Valderrobres or another village in the area, you will also find hiking routes and tours around the Matarraña.

How long to spend

An hour is enough for the old village. Add the Cueva del Agua and the zip line and allow half a day or a full day. Ideally spend two or three days in the area, combining Fuentespalda with Valderrobres, Beceite and the Parrizal, Calaceite or Peñarroya de Tastavins, all a short drive away.

Where to stay

In and around Fuentespalda there are rural houses and restored farmhouses among the pine woods, a quiet choice if you are driving. In the village itself you will find the odd small place near the old centre. For more choice, Valderrobres is the most practical base in the area, and Peñarroya de Tastavins and Beceite also have rural houses and boutique hotels.
