What to see in Pedreguer

Must-sees

Pedreguer is in the Marina Alta, on a fertile plain between the Muntanya Gran and the Montgó, a few kilometres from Dénia. It's an inland village with a life of its own, known for its furniture industry and its tradition of palm and leather work. In the centre, the church of La Santa Creu and Els Pòrxens stand out, arcades where markets have been held for generations, surrounded by 18th-century houses and buildings. The village is part of the Ruta dels Riuraus, the arched buildings where grapes were dried to make raisins.

The star visit is the Jardí de l'Albarda, a Mediterranean garden of about five hectares created in the 1980s on an old lemon grove. It combines a formal garden around a neoclassical villa, a Valencian garden with Arab influence and an area of native woodland, with roses, palms and hundreds of species of local flora. Around the village you can also climb to the hermitage of Sant Blai or see the Clot del Lirio, a natural opening that reveals an underground river.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Pedreguer. The best-known guided activity is the visit to the Jardí de l'Albarda, which tours its different spaces and explains Mediterranean flora and the conservation work done there. For the village and its trails, the tourist office has information on waymarked routes. From Dénia or Xàbia it's easy to come over on your own.

How long to spend

The village centre takes an hour or two, and the visit to the Jardí de l'Albarda takes another morning or afternoon. If you like walking, the PR-CV 53 trail circles the Muntanya Gran and fills another half day. The Sant Blai fiestas, in early February, coincide with the Porrat market, and in July the patron saint fiestas of Sant Bonaventura are held.

Where to stay

Accommodation in Pedreguer itself is limited: some houses and apartments in the village and rental villas on the hillside estates, with views of the Montgó and very quiet if you're driving. For more choice, Dénia is ten minutes away and has hotels by the harbour and on the beaches of Les Marines and Les Rotes. Ondara and Xàbia are also very close.
