What to see in Cala Millor

Must-sees

Cala Millor is a resort on the east coast of Majorca, split between the municipalities of Son Servera and Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. Its big draw is a long beach of fine sand and shallow water, with a pedestrian promenade full of terraces and shops. South of the beach is Punta de n’Amer, a protected natural area where you can walk among pines and dunes to a 17th-century defence tower.

To the north, the coast continues through Cala Bona, a small fishing port, and Costa dels Pins. If you travel a little, the area has a lot to see. Artà keeps a hilly old town crowned by the sanctuary of Sant Salvador, and nearby is the Talayotic settlement of Ses Païsses. In Capdepera you can climb up to its medieval castle. The Caves of Drach, in Porto Cristo, and the Caves of Artà, near Canyamel, are two well-known visits.

Free tours and guided visits

Pay-what-you-like free walking tours are not common in Cala Millor. Guided visits and trips leaving from the area are the norm here. The most interesting go to the Caves of Drach or Artà, with entry and a guided tour, and to Palma, where you will find free walking tours of the old town. There are also boat trips along the east coast, bike tours and trips to the Serra de Tramuntana to see Valldemossa or Sóller.

How long to spend

You can walk around the resort itself in a couple of hours, including the walk to Punta de n’Amer. As a holiday base, think of four or five days. That gives you time for the beach and a day for the caves, another for Artà and Capdepera, and one more for Palma or the Serra de Tramuntana. Early mornings and late afternoons are the most pleasant times to walk.

Where to stay

The best area is the seafront or the streets near the promenade, with the beach, restaurants and bus stops at hand. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, look in Cala Bona, by the harbour, or around Punta de n’Amer. Sa Coma, to the south, is another option with its own beach. To make trips freely, it is worth hiring a car, although there are buses to Palma and nearby villages.
