What to see in Anna

Must-sees

Anna is a village in the Canal de Navarrés, in inland Valencia province, and everything here revolves around water. In the centre stands the castle-palace of the Counts of Cervellón, of Almohad origin, with a courtyard and Arab-inspired rooms housing an ethnological collection and another devoted to water. Around the village you will see fountains, washhouses and the Camino de las Fuentes, with a garden and a tiled pavilion.

Outside the village are the beauty spots that made it famous. Lake Anna, known as the Albufera, is a good place for a walk and an outdoor meal. The Gorgo de la Escalera is a pool of green water surrounded by rock, reached by steps, with a waterfall. A route links other pools and springs in the municipality, such as the Fuente Negra.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Anna. What you will find on Civitatis is canyoning in the Gorgo de la Escalera, an instructor-led activity along the riverbed between pools and waterfalls. The rest of the village is easy to visit on your own. From Valencia or Xàtiva it is an easy day trip by car.

How long to spend

A couple of hours are enough for the palace, the fountains and the centre. If you add the lake and the Gorgo de la Escalera, allow a full day, best in spring or summer if you fancy a swim. With two days you can complete the pools route and visit other villages in the Canal de Navarrés or Xàtiva.

Where to stay

Anna has little accommodation: a few rural cottages and apartments in the village and around the Albufera, perfect for a quiet weekend. If you cannot find a room, Navarrés, Chella or Bolbaite, in the same area, have more rural cottages. Xàtiva, about twenty minutes away, is the option with the most hotels and services.
