What to see in Llucmajor

Must-sees

Llucmajor is one of the largest municipalities in Majorca, stretching from the farming interior to a long coastline in the south of the island. In the town, the great church of Sant Miquel and the old convent of Sant Bonaventura stand out, and nearby was fought the battle of 1349 in which James III, the last king of independent Majorca, died. The great sight inland is Puig de Randa, an isolated mountain with three sanctuaries: Gràcia, set under a rock wall, Sant Honorat and, at the top, Cura, linked to Ramon Llull.

On the coast, cliffs alternate with small coves. The Cap Blanc lighthouse looks over sheer walls above the sea, and further south is Cala Pi, a narrow cove with clear water. Nearby is Capocorb Vell, one of the most complete Talaiotic settlements on the island. At the northern end, S’Arenal and Cala Blava face the Bay of Palma.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free tours in Llucmajor. What you will find are outdoor activities: trips to the southern coves, horse rides around Randa and paddleboarding at Cala Blava. The town, the Randa sanctuaries and Capocorb Vell are easy to visit on your own, so you can combine a guided activity with a day of sightseeing at your own pace.

How long to spend

Allow half a day for the town and the drive up Randa to its three sanctuaries. Spend another half on Capocorb Vell and Cala Pi. If you want to add a sea activity or simply enjoy the coves, two or three days is about right. In summer the coast fills up, so it pays to get up early.

Where to stay

It depends on what you are after. S’Arenal has plenty of choice along Playa de Palma, with atmosphere and good links to the city. For something quieter, the coastal developments such as Cala Blava or the Cap Blanc area are close to the sea. Inland there are rural estates among almond trees and places to stay in Llucmajor itself and in Randa, ideal with a car.
