What to see in Móra la Nova

Must-sees

Móra la Nova is a village in the Ribera d'Ebre, in Tarragona province, on the left bank of the Ebro, opposite Móra d'Ebre, to which it is linked by an iron bridge. Its modern history is tied to the railway, as for decades the station was a large depot for steam locomotives and workshops. Today that memory lives on in the Railway Interpretation Centre, with the old 1928 signal tower turned into a museum.

The Ebro is the other big reason to come. From the jetty, the Les Sequines path is a short, flat walk by the river, with shady areas and a picnic spot. In the village you can see the church of the Mare de Déu del Remei, rebuilt after the Civil War, and the old Ateneu Obrer workers' club. On a hilltop stands the hermitage of Sant Pau, with views over the river plain.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Móra la Nova. There is, however, a kayak route down the Ebro from the village towards Miravet, a relaxed way to see the river and reach the Templar castle that dominates the area. You can also visit the Railway Interpretation Centre, and around the area there are guided visits to castles and Battle of the Ebro sites.

How long to spend

The village, the railway centre and the riverside walk can be seen in half a day. If you kayak down to Miravet, allow a full day to add a visit to the castle and the old village. With two days you can explore the Ribera d'Ebre at leisure and head to the Terra Alta, with its villages and vineyards.

Where to stay

The most practical option is to stay near the centre or close to the river, from where you can walk to the jetty and the station. There are farmhouses and rural houses on the outskirts. For more choice, Móra d'Ebre is across the bridge, and Miravet is a charming alternative by the Ebro.
