What to see in Los Navalucillos

Must-sees

Los Navalucillos is in the south of Toledo province, at the foot of the Montes de Toledo, in the La Jara area. Much of its municipality lies within Cabañeros National Park, and that is the main reason to come. In the village you can see the parish church of San Sebastián, of Mudéjar origin though much altered, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Saleras and a small ethnographic museum covering traditional life in the area.

The star visit is El Chorro, a waterfall of about 18 metres in two drops formed by the stream of the same name before it joins the river Pusa. It is reached by a linear path through holm oak woodland, riverside forest and oak groves, with damp corners where yews, hollies and birches survive. With luck you will see deer, black vultures or a dipper by the water. The municipality also includes small hamlets such as Robledo del Buey, Los Alares and Valdeazores.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours in Los Navalucillos. Most people explore the village on their own and walk the El Chorro path without a guide, as it is well signposted. If you prefer company, Cabañeros National Park runs guided routes on foot and by 4x4, mainly from the visitor centres on the Ciudad Real side. Another option is a day trip from Toledo, a little over an hour away by car.

How long to spend

The village can be seen in an hour or two. The El Chorro path takes almost three hours there and back, plus the drive to the start, so a full day covers the essentials. If you want to see Cabañeros at a slower pace, with its grassland plains and wildlife, set aside a weekend. Autumn is the best season: the deer rut fills the hills and the stream usually carries more water than in summer.

Where to stay

Accommodation in Los Navalucillos itself is small and based on rural houses in the village, convenient for walking around and setting off early to El Chorro. Around it there is more rural accommodation in Montes de Toledo villages such as Navahermosa or Hontanar, a few kilometres away. If you want to combine the visit with more services, Talavera de la Reina is the nearest large town.
