What to see in Serra de Outes

Must-sees

A Serra de Outes is the capital of the municipality of Outes, in A Coruña province, at the mouth of the river Tins on the north shore of the Muros and Noia estuary. It is a small, quiet place where the municipality's services are concentrated. The Tins riverside walk, which starts in the village, is a short, flat route along wooden boardwalks, past mills and small waterfalls. In the centre is the single pointed arch of the Serra bridge, and nearby the 18th-century Ponte do Ruso.

There is much more around it. The Ponte Nafonso, medieval in origin and rebuilt in stone in the 16th century, crosses the Tambre towards Noia. On the coast, Broña beach stands out, with pale sand and calm water. For views, climb Monte Tremuzo, from where you can see the estuaries and the mouth of the Tambre. The municipality also keeps petroglyphs, stone crosses and a museum space devoted to traditional boatbuilding.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours or regular guided visits in A Serra de Outes. The usual approach is to explore the village and the Tins walk on your own and drive around the municipality. For a guide, the closest options are the free walking tours and guided visits in Santiago de Compostela, less than an hour away by car, and the day trips from there to the estuaries and the Atlantic coast.

How long to spend

The village and the riverside walk can be seen in a morning. If you add the Ponte Nafonso, Broña beach and the climb up Monte Tremuzo, give it a full day. With a second day you can cross to Noia to see its old town or continue along the coast towards Muros. In summer it is best to reach the beaches early, as they fill up at weekends.

Where to stay

A Serra de Outes has little accommodation, mostly rural houses scattered across the municipality's parishes, many with views of the estuary or the Tambre. They are a good option if you have a car and want peace. If you prefer everything close at hand, Noia is a few minutes away and has more places to stay and restaurants. To combine the area with city sightseeing, Santiago de Compostela is the alternative with the most choice.
