What to see in Salceda de Caselas

Must-sees

Salceda de Caselas lies in the Louro valley, between Tui and Ponteareas, in the south of Pontevedra province. It is a rural municipality of scattered parishes, hills and vineyards, part of the Condado do Tea subzone of the Rías Baixas appellation. Its most characteristic feature is its water routes, with riverside trails following rivers such as the Caselas and the Landres past restored mills.

Heritage is spread across the parishes. The 18th-century church of Santa María de Salceda was built over an old monastery. There are several manor houses, such as Casa Grande, from the early 17th century, and the Pazo Pegullal, now a winery, with gardens on the Camellia Route. For views of the valley, climb to the hermitage on the San Cibrán hillfort or the Coto das Pías viewpoint.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Salceda de Caselas, but you can take a guided visit to a local winery with a wine tasting, a good way to discover the Condado do Tea. The rest of the municipality is explored on your own, following the riverside trails and the waymarked routes through the San Cibrán hills. If you are staying in Vigo or Tui, there are trips along the Miño combining wineries and villages of the Condado.

How long to spend

A morning is enough for a riverside trail and the church of Santa María. If you add a winery visit and a viewpoint, allow a full day. With two days you can also explore Tui, with its cathedral and old town, or the rest of the Condado do Tea, with Salvaterra de Miño and As Neves a short distance away.

Where to stay

Salceda has little accommodation, mostly rural houses spread across the parishes, convenient if you have a car and want peace and quiet. If you prefer more services, Tui is very close and has places to stay in its old town by the Miño. Ponteareas and Vigo, a short distance away, are other alternatives with much more variety.
