What to see in Campanet

Must-sees

Campanet is a quiet village in the north of Majorca, at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, between Inca and Pollença. Its centre revolves around the main square and the 18th-century parish church, surrounded by stone houses. Outside the village, in the Sant Miquel valley, is the small church of Sant Miquel, from the 13th century and in early Gothic style, one of the oldest churches on the island, in a lovely rural setting.

The Coves de Campanet are the best-known visit. They were discovered in 1945 during a search for water, and the route through them shows stalactites, stalagmites and other very delicate formations. Very close by are the Fonts Ufanes, springs that only burst out after heavy rain: when they do, the water gushes among the holm oaks, a rare sight. Around the village there are also old mills and paths for walking among almond and olive trees.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free walking tours in Campanet. The activity on offer is the cave ticket, with an organised route that is the best way to see them. The village and the church of Sant Miquel are easy to visit on your own. If you are in Palma or on the bay of Alcúdia, Campanet fits into a driving route through the interior with Inca, Selva or Pollença.

How long to spend

Half a day lets you see the caves and stroll around the centre. If you add the Sant Miquel valley and a walk towards the Fonts Ufanes, allow a whole day. Keep an eye on the weather: the springs burst out after several days of heavy rain, and then it is worth changing your plans to see them.

Where to stay

The village has little hotel accommodation, but around it there are rural estates and agrotourism stays among almond groves, perfect for a quiet trip with a car. If you prefer more services, Pollença is close by, and the bay of Alcúdia has lots of accommodation by the sea. Inca, well connected to Palma by train, is another practical alternative.
