What to see in Dos Hermanas

Must-sees

Dos Hermanas is a large town in the Seville metropolitan area, south of the city. Its centre revolves around the Plaza de la Constitución, home to the 16th-century church of Santa María Magdalena, remodelled in the 18th century. Very close is the chapel of Santa Ana, with a cave where, according to tradition, the image of the saint was found. Another stop is the old mill of the Montefrío estate, now the La Almona cultural centre, with a tile-covered Baroque tower.

For a stroll, La Alquería park surrounds the Alquería del Pilar, a 19th-century neo-Mudéjar building. The countryside around the town is full of olive estates, among which the Torre de Doña María stands out, with a medieval Mudéjar-style tower. The hermitage of Valme, at the Cuarto farmstead, is the destination of the pilgrimage of the Virgen de Valme, which brings together decorated carts and thousands of pilgrims.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no regular free walking tours or organised visits in Dos Hermanas. The easiest option is to explore the centre on your own, as the main stops are close to one another. If you want guided visits, Seville is a step away and has an enormous range of free walking tours and routes through the Santa Cruz quarter, the Cathedral or the Alcázar.

How long to spend

Half a day is enough for the centre, the churches, La Almona and a walk in La Alquería park. If you stay here, the usual plan is to use it as a base and spend the rest of your time in Seville, which is very well connected by commuter train and, from Montequinto, by metro. If you coincide with the Valme pilgrimage, set aside a whole day to experience it.

Where to stay

The centre, near the Plaza de la Constitución and the railway station, is the most convenient area for getting around on foot and reaching Seville quickly. Montequinto, by the metro, is another good option if you will spend a lot of time in the city. The places to stay along the motorway towards Seville and in La Motilla are practical if you have a car. If you prefer to sleep among the monuments, Seville has much more choice.
