What to see in Llavorsí

Must-sees

Llavorsí is a small village in the Pallars Sobirà, in the Lleida Pyrenees, where the Noguera de Cardós meets the Noguera Pallaresa. It is the gateway to the Cardós and Vallferrera valleys and lies on the way to the Valls d'Àneu. Its old core is small and pleasant to explore, with narrow cobbled streets, stone and slate houses and the church of Santa Anna. Above the village you can see the remains of an old castle with one tower still standing.

The big reason to come is the river. The Noguera Pallaresa runs hard here in spring and early summer, when the snowmelt swells it into a fine stretch of white water. The municipality also includes small mountain hamlets such as Baiasca, with Romanesque churches, Aidí and Montenartró, and pine and birch forests that are part of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.

All are done with instructors in groups, and it is worth booking in high season. To discover the area's Romanesque heritage, the most practical option is to travel between the villages on your own.

How long to spend

The village itself takes an hour to see. The usual plan is to spend half a day on a river activity and the rest strolling or enjoying a long lunch. With a weekend you can combine rafting with a trip to the Vall de Cardós or the Vallferrera and a walk in the natural park. The best season for the water runs from May to September, with more flow at the start.
