What to see in Sabadell

Must-sees

Sabadell was one of the great centres of the Catalan textile industry, and that past shows in its heritage. In the centre, Modernista buildings stand out, such as the old Lluch office, the Central Market and the historic headquarters of the Caixa de Sabadell savings bank. The Water Tower, an early 20th-century elevated tank, is one of the city’s symbols. The Rambla is the main street for strolling.

To learn the local history, the Sabadell History Museum and the Art Museum have collections on the city and its industrial evolution. Parc Catalunya is the city’s great green lung. To the north begins the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, where you can climb La Mola, with its Romanesque monastery on the summit. Barcelona is just over half an hour away by train.

Free tours and guided visits

Sabadell is not a usual free walking tour destination, although routes on Modernisme and industrial heritage are occasionally organised. The most interesting options are themed guided tours of the textile city, explaining how the factories and steam mills worked. Guided hikes in Sant Llorenç del Munt also leave from here. If you stay in Sabadell, you have all of Barcelona’s free walking tours and trips to Montserrat at hand.

How long to spend

Half a day or a day is enough to see the main sights of Sabadell. In the morning, walk the centre, the Rambla and the Modernista buildings, and go into one of the museums. In the afternoon you can visit Parc Catalunya or the Water Tower. If you like walking, set aside a whole day to climb La Mola. Many travellers use the city as a base and spend their remaining days in Barcelona.

Where to stay

The most practical area to sleep is the centre, around the Rambla and Plaça del Doctor Robert. You are close to the main buildings, shops and restaurants. If you plan to go to Barcelona, look for somewhere near a station with a direct connection. Hotels by the motorway exits are a good option if you are driving and want to get around the area.
