What to see in Cala Figuera

Must-sees

Cala Figuera is a small fishing harbour in the municipality of Santanyí, in south-east Majorca. The inlet cuts into the coast and splits into two arms, the Caló d’en Boira and the Caló d’en Busques, where the harbour is. The best thing to do is stroll by the water and look at the fishermen’s boathouses with their slipways, the traditional boats and the nets. It is not a beach resort but a place of calm and seafaring scenes.

On the headland stands the Torre d’en Beu, a restored 16th-century watchtower, with a small lighthouse beside it and good sea views. Very close are Cala Santanyí and Mondragó Natural Park, with coves such as s’Amarador. The town of Santanyí, a few minutes away, is worth a visit for its stone old town and weekly market.

Free tours and guided visits

There are no free tours in Cala Figuera, but there are some organised activities. Boat trips run along the south coast to coves such as Cala Moro, an easy way to see the coastline from the water. There are also day trips with pick-up in the area to Sóller and Valldemossa, in the Serra de Tramuntana, with no need to worry about the car or parking.

How long to spend

The harbour and the tower take a couple of hours. With a full day you can add a swim at Cala Santanyí and a visit to Santanyí. If you stay here, three or four days let you walk in Mondragó, take the boat trip and spend a day in the Tramuntana. Outside summer the village is much quieter.

Where to stay

Cala Figuera has small hotels and apartments, mostly in the streets climbing from the harbour and in the upper area, with sea views. It is a quiet option with no big complexes. If you want more services, Santanyí has charming houses and hotels in the centre, and Cala d’Or, a little further north, has far more choice.
