What to see in Cambrils

Must-sees

Cambrils is a seafaring town on the Costa Daurada known above all for its port and its seafood. The promenade along the port, with the fish market and the boats, is the liveliest spot. There stands the Port tower, an old defence tower against pirates that is now part of the local history museum. The old town, inland, keeps quiet streets and the parish church.

The beaches are long, with fine sand and shallow water, good for children. The promenade links them and can be done on foot or by bike. Near the town is Parc Samà, a 19th-century romantic garden with a lake, palm trees and colonial-style buildings. You can also visit the Roman villa of La Llosa and the hermitage of the Mare de Déu del Camí.

Free tours and guided visits

Pay-what-you-like free walking tours are rare in Cambrils. The usual options are guided visits to the old town and the museum sites, and some themed routes about its seafaring past. What is most worthwhile are the day trips. Tarragona, with its Roman heritage, is very close. Reus offers a Modernista route. Inland, the Priorat and Poblet monastery make excellent day trips.

How long to spend

One day is enough to see the port, the old town and Parc Samà. If you come for a beach holiday, the usual is to stay a week and split the days between the sea and day trips. A good combination is two or three days for Tarragona, Reus and the inland area, and the rest for relaxing and eating well.

Where to stay

The port area is the best option if you want atmosphere, restaurants and the promenade close at hand. If you prefer peace, the developments beside the beaches, east and west of the port, are quieter and usually have places to stay with a pool. The old town is a little away from the sea, but useful if you are looking for lower prices and a local atmosphere.
