What to see in Mogón

Must-sees

Mogón is a hamlet of Villacarrillo, in the Las Villas area, beside the Guadalquivir and at the gates of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park. It is a small, quiet village surrounded by olive groves and water: the Guadalquivir and the river Aguascebas meet here, so there are plenty of fountains, bridges and spots to cool off in summer.

On the right bank of the river is the Castellones de Mogón site, an Iberian settlement that yielded pieces such as the relief known as the Horse Tamer. For walking, the road to the Aguascebas reservoir takes you deep into the hills, and from there a path climbs the stream to the Osera waterfall, a demanding but very beautiful route. A few kilometres away, Villacarrillo has the church of La Asunción, by Andrés de Vandelvira.

How long to spend

The village itself can be seen in an hour or two, and with the oil mill visit you fill half a day. If you want to do the Osera waterfall route, set aside another whole morning and wear hiking boots.
